Kiss Me Deadly

This movie was alright at best, through the entirely i felt that there were was to many weird and strange occurences such as the mysterious box, the torture, and the horrible acting. The ending completly threw me off with the sci-fi and was not a good thing to add. When a movie starts out normal and finishes with an ending that outrageous and obscure i like to question whether or not it was actually a good film.

Kiss Me Deadly is a great film. It is consistent throughout- all of the "weird" occurences are tied to a pervasive fear which gives the film a constantly eerie feel. And the acting isn't bad- it's odd at most, but that only feeds into an overall (and successful) creepiness. Finally, to call it "sci-fi" is inaccurate- the film was made during the early, and possibly scariest, years of the Cold War- that the box contains enriched uranium or whatever kind of radio-active matter and for the plot to hinge on espionage was terrifying and potentially realistic at the time. Plus the Cahier du Cinema named it one of the best ten films of 1955 which I think trumps the assessment of someone in an introduction to film class.
